![]() Instead, it takes a cue from the other new mode, Arms Race, in which each kill unlocks another weapon instantly. To separate Demolition from Defusal, players can't buy between rounds. The Lake map is a standout - there's a wide open yet densely populated yard around the bomb site, which is inside a sizable lakeside home with plenty of vantage points and hiding spots. The new and modified maps in this mode aren't as big as classic Counter-Strike arenas – entire sections have been cut off to direct teams toward a central location – but their thoughtful design is as intricate as ever. ![]() They're particularly useful during Demolition matches, which focus the fight at a single bomb site rather than giving terrorists two to pick between. Flames are a useful distraction or scare tactic, too. Molotov cocktails and incendiary grenades either roast groups of guys or force them in another direction. “Fire is one of the most interesting new combat variables. Walking, crouching, or standing are your best bets to reduce the inaccurate spray of machine-gun fire. Running and gunning is a useless play style, even if you've bought a helmet and kevlar that round, to the point that someone standing still is more likely to score the kill. Everyone is limited to what they have and can see, with little room for character modification or on-the-fly advantages. Part of what makes it such an engaging competitive game is that killing in Global Offensive requires a wholly different skill set than other shooters. CSGO is so dedicated to Counter-Strike's aging ideals despite market and trend changes that it brute-forces its way to success. Even in the face of genre evolution, Global Offensive doesn’t care to adapt. Certain map redesigns will catch hardcore fans off guard, but the changes are for the best - the underpass choke point in de_dust, for instance, has a new escape route. Call of Duty and Battlefield vets will wonder why they can't sprint to escape enemy fire or look down the iron sights to improve aim Counter-Strike players will feel like they walked into their redecorated home. There's an addictive just-one-more-round quality to it, because there's a constant desire to do better than last time, to earn a satisfying kill, or to win in a new way. Teams are small, guns are lethal, and rounds are short. Pieces of the Counter-Strike formula are dated at this point, but the superb heart and soul of Global Offensive is timeless. Between rounds, everyone spends earned cash on better gear and guns, and the cycle continues. Of course matches end when everyone on a team is dead, but a clever and coordinated terrorist team will give the CTs the slip, plant their bomb, and protect the bomb site. The bomb objective, meanwhile, gives everyone a purpose. As such, players on both sides must exercise skill and care. When a counter-terrorist kills a terrorist planting explosives in a classic Defusal match, or a CT escort swallows a sniper round in Hostage Rescue, the victim is dead for good and doesn't respawn until the next round. For the uninitiated, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is a small-scale, team-based first-person shooter with permanent death. The governor was reacting to widespread public questioning of their guilt, which later led his successor, Governor John P. On November 11, 1887, four of the men were hanged. Gary imposed the death sentence on seven of the men, and the eighth was sentenced to 15 years in prison. In August 1886, eight men labeled as anarchists were convicted in a sensational and controversial trial in which the jury was considered to be biased and no solid evidence was presented linking the defendants to the bombing. The Haymarket Riot set off a national wave of xenophobia, as scores of foreign-born radicals and labor organizers were rounded up by the police in Chicago and elsewhere. Seven police officers and at least one civilian died as a result of the violence that day, and an untold number of other people were injured. The police and possibly some members of the crowd opened fire and chaos ensued. As the police advanced, an individual who was never identified threw a bomb at them. It begins with the ritual "invocation of the muse," and makes use of traditional epithets and circumlocutions. It is written in dactylic hexameter, the form of the great heroic and nationalistic epic poems, both those of the ancient tradition (the Iliad and Odyssey) and of Ovid's own day (the Aeneid). Change as the only permanent aspect of nature is the certainty that underlies the work of Ovid, who jumps from one transformation tale to another, sometimes retelling what had come to be seen as central events in the world of Greek myths and sometimes straying in odd directions. Ovid works his way through his subject matter often in an apparently arbitrary fashion however, the connection between all the seemingly unconnected stories is that all of them talk about transformation. Published around 8 AD, the Metamorphoses are a source, sometimes the only source, for many of the most famous ancient myths, such as the stories of Daedalus and Icarus, Arachne or Narcisus. It consists of a narrative poem in fifteen books that describes the creation and history of the world through mythological tales, starting with a cosmogony and finishing with the deification of Julius Caesar. The Metamorphoses of Ovid is probably one of the best known, certainly one of the most influential works of the Ancient world. Some more detailed footnotes have been taken from Riley's translation of the Metamorphoses and these are marked with a "-c" after the footnote number.LibriVox recording of Metamorphoses, by Publius Ovidius Naso (Ovid). "Back in May, Gemini zoomed in on intriguing features in and around Jupiter's Great Red Spot: including a swirling structure on the inside of the spot, a curious hook-like cloud feature on its western side and a lengthy, fine-structured wave extending off from its eastern side," adds Orton. "The Gemini observations, spanning most of the first half of this year, have already revealed a treasure-trove of fascinating events in Jupiter's atmosphere," said Glenn Orton, PI for this Gemini adaptive optics investigation and coordinator for Earth-based observations supporting the Juno project at Caltech's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. High-resolution imaging of Jupiter by the Gemini North telescope on Maunakea is informing the Juno mission of compelling events in Jupiter's atmosphere. Very detailed Gemini Observatory images peel back Jupiter's atmospheric layers to support the NASA/JPL Juno spacecraft in its quest to understand the giant planet's atmosphere. Credit: Gemini Observatory/AURA/NSF/JPL-Caltech/NASA The central wavelengths and colors assigned to the filters are:1.69 microns (blue), 2.045 microns (cyan), 2.169 microns (green), 2.124 microns (yellow), and 2.275 microns (red). High hazes are evident over both polar regions with much spatial structure that has never been seen quite so clearly in ground-based images, with substantial variability in their spatial structure. Juno may pass over these ovals during its July 11 closest approach. Another bright anticyclonic oval is seen further north. Both the wave pattern and the ovals may be associated with an impressive upsurge in stormy activity that has been observed in these latitudes this year. A prominent wave pattern is evident north of the equator, along with two bright ovals these are anticyclones that appeared in January. Both are long-lived cyclonic circulations, rotating clockwise - in the opposite direction as the counterclockwise rotation of the GRS. Other features near the GRS include the dark block and dark oval to the south and the north of the eastern flow pattern, respectively, indicating a lower density of cloud and haze particles in those locations. Some are being swept off its eastern edge (right side) and into an extensive wave-like flow pattern and there is even a trace of flow from its north. ![]() Narrow spiral streaks that appear to lead into it or out of it from surrounding regions probably represent atmospheric features being stretched by the intense winds within the GRS, such as the hook-like structure on its western edge (left side). ![]() The features that appear yellow/orange at Jupiter’s poles arise from the reflection of sunlight from high-altitude hazes that are the products of auroral-related chemistry in the planet’s upper stratosphere. The Great Red Spot (GRS) appears as the brightest (white) region at these wavelengths, which are primarily sensitive to high-altitude clouds and hazes near and above the top of Jupiter’s convective region – revealing that the GRS is one of the highest-altitude features in Jupiter’s atmosphere. The color filters cover wavelengths between 1.69 to 2.275 microns and are sensitive to pressures of 10 millibars to 2 bars. The image was taken using the Gemini North telescope with the Near-InfraRed Imager (NIRI) on May 18, 2017, one day before the Juno mission’s sixth close passage (“perijove”) of the planet. A composite color infrared image of Jupiter reveals haze particles over a range of altitudes, as seen in reflected sunlight. |
